The family of Jimmy Slack is organizing a concert to remember the Bridgeville man and raise money for charity.
The family is holding the second annual "Jams for Jimmy" concert on Feb. 23 at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department’s Chartiers Room.
Tickets cost $20 for the all-day event and can be purchased at the door or by contacting the organizers through the “Help find Jimmy Slack” Facebook page.
Slack died after going to a concert on the North Side of Pittsburgh in December 2011. Authorities spent weeks searching for him before his body was found in the Ohio River near the Carnegie Science Center on Jan. 23.
The family is holding the concert again to remember Slack and his love for music.
“This should be a fun event, for a wonderful cause, all done in the memory of my amazing brother who is missed by so many!” his sister, Laura Slack, wrote in an email. “We truly appreciate all of the support we have received from the community. We wouldn't have been able to do it without everyone's love!”
There will be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and T-shirts for sale. The proceeds will benefit “The Caring Foundation” that offers grief counseling for children and teens. Laura Slack said Highmark has promised to match the donations made from the concert.
The doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the music is expected to go from 1 to 11:30 p.m. Beer and food will be sold at the concert, and snacks can be brought into the fire hall. Patrons must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
