Hollywood to Present 'Rocky Horror' With Batty Twist

The Junior Chamber of Commerce Players will be offering up their "Rocky Horror Picture Show" shadowcast with a twist—all of the main RHPS characters will be dressed as characters from Batman.

This weekend Transylvania will look a little more like Gotham when the Junior Chamber of Commerce Players take the stage at the on Potomac Avenue as the cult classic characters from "Rocky Horror Picture Show," but dressed as Batman heroes and villains.

While the movie plays on the screen, a “shadowcast”—or live actors—will mime and mimic the action of the characters in the film on stage in front of the movie.

Moviegoers can expect to see Joker-Futer—a mashup of the Joker from Batman and RHPS iconic star Frankenfurter—create a man, and Ivygenta—a combination of the Batman villain Poison Ivy and RHPS alien maid Magenta—do the timewarp again. Not only will the costumes be batty, some gags and the prop bags will also get a Dark Knight twist.

According to theater manager John Maggio, the Rocky Horror Batman Show event is timed to celebrate the opening of the new Batman movie recently filmed in Pittsburgh, "The Dark Knight Rises".

“The Batmobile will make an appearance and many other batman props that I don’t want to disclose at this time so it will be a surprise,” Maggio said. Tickets to get into the movie are $7 and the bags full of batty props to throw during the show—a Rocky Horror tradition—are $3.

Kevin Koontz volunteers at the Hollywood theater and has been attending performances for years. According to Koontz, the cast—who performs shows all across the state but whose home theater is the Hollywood—has performed the Batman themed show three other times but he thinks this will be the best performance yet.

“The energy of this show is a bit different from our normal shows, with the actors going all out with their characters to really amp up the experience for the audience both before and during the show,” Koontz wrote in an email to Dormont-Brookline Patch.
