Get Out Your Pens and Keyboards for 2011 Writing Contest

Dormont Public Library sponsors contest for adults, high school and middle school students.

New and emerging writers are eligible to enter Dormont Public Library's 2011 Writing Contest.

The contest is open to adults as well as high school students in grades 9-12 and middle school students in grades 6-8. Original stories must be suitable for a general audience, but may be in any style and about any subject.

Entrants should send one copy of the short story containing no more than 1,000 words. All entries must be typed and should not contain illustrations.

Include name, address, telephone number and age group above the story or on a cover page.

Judging will be impartial, and judges will be professional writers selected on the basis of expertise. Submissions become the property of Dormont Public Library.

The contest deadline is Oct. 28. All entries should be sent to: 2950 West Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15216.

First and second place prizes will be awarded in each category. Winners will be announced in early November and invited to an informal reception at the library at 7 p.m. Nov. 17.
