Get Out: Weekend Planner

Here are 10 events to check out this weekend.

It’s Friday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

1.
Where/When: , 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday
Why Go?: The American Heart Association designed the Family and Friends program for individuals interested in learning how to save the life of a loved one. This particular session meets the needs of parents, grandparents and sitters with infants and children. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of life-threatening emergencies and practice appropriate safety actions, including skills for cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and choking for the infant and child. Each participant will receive an American Heart Association information booklet. Click here to register.

Where?/When?: Pittsburgh Public Theater, 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday
Why Go?: The Pittsburgh Public Theater presents "As You Like It" from Jan. 19 to Feb. 19. "As You Like It" is about a rosy glow of romance that follows young nobles into the Forest of Arden. "As You Like It" is sure to create the same sense of enchantment as The Public's delightful A Midsummer Night's Dream. to read more about the production.

Where/When: Mt. Lebanon Ice Center, 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday
Why Go: Bring the family for an afternoon of ice skating and enjoy the special effects lighting, DVD videos and arcade games. Back to school is the theme for the afternoon.
Pricing: $4.75 admission, $2 skate rental.

Where?/When?: Chick-fil-A, 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: This is a western themed date night for mom and her cowboys. Reservations are required. Call 412-833-1165 to make a reservation. Each reservation is an hour long.

Where?/When?: , 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: Nourish your artistic spirit by creating lovely, hand painted items on silk such as; note cards, canvas bags and window hangings. Prices are dependent on items made.
Pricing: $5 to $12/window hangings, $3/bookmark, $25/bag, $3/card.

Where?/When?: Pottery Barn Kids at The Galleria, 10 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The National Geographic Little Explorers Club is coming to The Galleria of Mt. Lebanon. This week, the club will focus on all things bugs! Children, ages 3 and up, will learn all about these creatures through hands-on activities, songs and more! Children will receive a badge for each event that they attend. Why Go?: Need something for the family to do during the winter? There is no better place to turn to than the Trax Farms Indoor Flea Market. You are guaranteed to find something unique from 83 vendors selling antiques, gifts, collectibles, clothing, apparel, hobby items, food and much more. Whether you're just browsing or ready to buy, there is something for everyone!
Pricing: Parking and admission are free, but prices vary.

Where/When: Senator John Heinz History Center, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The History Center presents the Fifth Annual Quilters Weekend, showcasing the unique history of quilting in Western Pennsylvania and encouraging families to share the tradition together. Come experience a weekend full of hands-on activities, enjoy antique and present-day quilt displays and quilting demonstrations, and visit with quilting vendors and guilds from throughout the region.
Pricing: Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens (62+), $5 for children ages 4-17 and students with ID, and free for children under 3 and History Center Members.

Where/When: , 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Troop 23 will hold its annual Spaghetti Dinner this weekend. The scouts will serve spaghetti with a choice of sauce, salad, Breadworks bread, beverages and homemade desserts. Dinner comes complete with checkered table clothes and candlelight! Proceeds will help with camping trips for the boys, including an upcoming trip to Gettysburg!
Pricing: $6 for Adults, $4 for Children.

Where/When: Byham Theater, 8 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, in association with The Andy Warhol Museum's 2012 performance series, Off the Wall, presents Mike Daisey’s The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs at the Byham Theater, as part of the Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents series. Created and performed by Mike Daisey and directed by Jean-Michele Gregory, The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs dives into the epic story of real life Willy Wonka Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple. Daisey examines how Jobs’ obsessions profoundly shape our everyday lives and recounts Jobs' journey to China to investigate the factories where millions are employed making iPhones and iPods.  This presentation in Pittsburgh by Daisey is one of only a few select cities around the country on his tour.
