Get Out: The Weekend Planner

A weekend guide for local events.

Welcome to the new and improved Get Out Weekend Planner! We recently combined the Grab & Go Kids Planner with Get Out for a one-stop shop for fun weekend planning!

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.
Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

1.
Where?/When?: South Park Theatre, Thursday-Saturday, 8 p.m.
Why Go?: The South Park Theatre presents "The Psychic." The play is about a down-on-his luck writer, in desperation to make the rent, who puts a sign in his apartment window "Psychic Readings $25." This sign draws a variety of characters into a tangled murder mystery comedy.
Pricing: Basic admission is $12 and $15 for musicals, and subscribers pay $10 for shows. Discounted rates for groups of 15 people or more are available at $2 off per person

Where?/When?: , Friday, 5 p.m.
Why Go?: The is a free evening full of fun, friends, prizes and food! Dash plates will be presented to all entrances. Bring your car, truck , bike or anything that rolls.
Pricing: Free.

Where?/When?: Brookline Blvd & Pioneer Ave, Saturday, 9 a.m.
Why Go?: Brookline Breeze is a challenging 5K race / fitness walk on the rolling hills of Brookline. The race begins at the Brookline Community Center. Proceeds benefit Brookline area Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Brookline area Recreation Programs and Brookline Regional Catholic. As part of the 30th anniversary celebration, this year the organization will host the first Breeze Doggie Dash as part of the 1-mile Mini-Breeze.  Registered participants can register their dogs, who will receive a Breeze Bandana, and the pooch can run or walk along, on a leash of course. All registered 5K runners, walkers, and Mini-Breeze runners will receive a T-shirt. Sizes not guaranteed to day of the race registrants. Pricing:  5K Race: $18.00, 5K Walk: $15.00, 1 Mile Mini Breeze: $12.00, Additional Dog: $10.00, Wheelchair Race: $18.00.

Where?/When?: Pottery Barn Kids at the Galleria, Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go?: Learn how to create a beautiful room like you see in the Pottery Barn catalog. The staff will provide you with great tips on creating a beautiful environment for your new baby.
Pricing: Free.

Where?/When?: Michaels, Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon
Why Go?: Ages 3 and up will Create a crafty bookworm from a clay pot for great place to hold your bookmarks and other knickknacks. This is a make-it take-it program that is free with purchase of clay pot, while supplies last.
Pricing: Free.

Where?/When?: , Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Why Go?: Support the Brookline branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh by buying used adult, teen and children’s books, movies and music.  Come after 2 pm for a special Breeze-fest Bag Sale where you can fill a brown grocery bag with booksale items and buy the whole bag for only $3.00!

Where?/When?:  Lowe's, Saturday, 10-11 a.m.
Why Go?: It's for kids around 5 and up. Younger kids can come too, as long as the parents are willing to help them with the projects. The kids will get a free apron, goggles, and a project patch. Parents stay there while the kids work on the projects.This week the project is a school house photo holder.
Pricing: Free.

Where?/When?:  , Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Why Go?: Brookline Community Day will kick off with the . The community festival will be located along Brookline Blvd. with the Breeze Fest. The activities include Moon Bounces, Ballon Artists, a Dunk Tank, and Inflatable Slide as well as a Scavenger Hunt! This year's band is Yinzide Out, an assembly of local instrumentalists from various established acts brought together and turned Yinzide Out, generating music of varied styles.

Where?/When?: Michaels, Saturday, noon to 2 p.m.
Why Go?: Participants will create a stylish and sturdy folder perfect to help with organization for the upcoming school year. This make-it, take-it program is for ages 3 and up and will last until supplies run out.

Where?/When?: Oliver Miller Homestead, Sunday, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Why Go?: An 18th Century Flax Fest will be held at the historic Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park. Visitors will see the processing of flax from harvesting to rippling, retting, breaking, scutching, hackling, spinning and being woven into cloth on the loom. This historic festival will be fun and interesting for the whole family!
Pricing: $2.
