Find Out Where Boulevard Construction is Happening Next

Construction is moving forward on Brookline Boulevard, and the community point person for the work provided several updates about what locals can expect.

Construction is moving forward on Brookline Boulevard, and while some phases of the project begin to wrap up, schedules are changing and locals can expect to see a few new things.

Lois McCafferty of South Pittsburgh Development Corporation has been the community point person for the project, and has been in contact with Facchiano Construction, the company completing the work.

McCafferty provided the following updates:

  • Castlegate to wedgemere, the Drainage work is 75-percent complete from Castlegate to Wedgemere, electric work is scheduled for completion during the third week of July, and then curbs will begin to go in. In mid-July, the contractors will move down the street from Castlegate to Flatbush.
  • Vault doors have been shipped for locations on the business side of the Boulevard between Stebbins and Queensburg. Most of the sidewalks are done, all of the tree boxes are in, and the barriers are scheduled to be removed the first week of August.
  • Work on Memorial Park (Cannon Park) is scheduled to begin during the week of July 22.
  • Plans for directing traffic most effectively during construction at Pioneer Avenue and Brookline Boulevard are in discussion.
  • Milling and paving on the Boulevard is still many weeks away, but all groups involved in the project are discussing the best way to handle the old trolley tracks buried under the street along Brookline Boulevard.
McCafferty said the schedule the contractors keep on the Boulevard also will change this month. Contractors have been working four 10-hour days, but will now work five eight-hour days. This might be a temporary schedule, and is due in part to the hot weather.

And for those who are curious about what the Boulevard will look like when it's finished, a map is set up at Cannon Coffee with benches, trees and new parking configurations marked.

Dormont-Brookline Patch will continue to provide updates as they become available.
