Community Remembers Fall Victim

The death of a Dormont man who fell from a balcony in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood has been ruled accidental, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

Andrew W. Guzzi, 25, of Dormont, died after falling three stories from the fire escape of a home in the South Side, Pittsburgh police said. Guzzi was found near the corner of 18th and Carey streets.

According to the medical examiner’s office, the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head as a result of a fall. A spokesman from the examiner’s office said the death has been ruled accidental.

On Sunday and Monday, friends took to social media and to the message board of Upper St. Clair Patch to express grief for a man many described as funny and caring, who could always bring out a smile in those he met.

Guzzi is a 2009 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College, and is a 2005 graduate of Upper St. Clair High School.

Upper St. Clair High School Principal Michael Ghilani said he spoke with many of the teachers at the school Monday and they all agreed that Guzzi "had a great sense of humor, was always very, very respectful, and just had a really great personality."

Friends from Washington & Jefferson also remembered Guzzi as someone who always was fun to be around.

"Guzzi was a bright guy who tried to enjoy life to its fullest," said Patrick Johnson.

Johnson, a South Park native who now lives in the Washington, D.C. area, was a friend of Guzzi's, and a resident assistant in their college dormitory. He remembers Guzzi as someone with an amazing sense of humor, who was well-liked and will be greatly missed.

"He had a remarkable ability to make those around him happier with his charm and good sense of humor," Johnson said.

Funeral arrangements have been made. Visitation will be held at Beinhauer Funeral Home at 2828 Washington Road in McMurray on Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m., and on Nov. 15 from 1 to 8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. in Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2040 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, 15241.
