Christmas Tree Recycling Locations

What to do with your Christmas tree now that the season's over? Recycle it!

With Christmas 2011 (sadly) behind us, it's time to undecorate the tree and start packing up the decorations.

If you bought a live Christmas tree this year, you have the option to recycle it. Here's a recap of some area locations you can take your Christmas tree:

  • Dormont residents can leave trees outside their homes through Jan. 11. The borough public works department will pick up the trees and run them through a chipper for recycling purposes. Trees left outside should not block the sidewalks.
  • Allegheny County's Fourth Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program runs from Jan. 3 through Jan. 22. Drop-off locations are in North, Settlers Cabin and South parks, as well as Boyce Park's model airplace field. Trees can be dropped off daily at any location between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All lights, decorations, tinsel and stands must be removed from trees before drop off. The trees will be mulched and used in the county's parks.
