Brookline Breeze Race, Festival on Two Different Days This Year

Due to construction on the Boulevard, the Brookline Breeze 5K race will be held in August, and the festival will be in September.

The annual Brookline Breeze 5K and Festival will be run a bit differently this year, as a result of ongoing construction on the Boulevard.

The Brookline Breeze 5K run/walk will be held Aug. 10. The route will be the same as in past years, and still will be run down Brookline Boulevard.

But the festival and the race will not be combined this year. Instead of holding a festival after the race, the Autumn Breeze Festival will be held Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"It will be more simplified than in past years," said Chamber of Commerce President Linda Boss. "But it will bring people up to the sidewalks and it will still be the community event."

The Brookline Boulevard Reconstruction Project is scheduled to last until November, and Boss said the Breeze committee thought it could be too dangerous to hold a festival with construction equipment crowding the sidewalks.

By September, she said, more of the sidewalks would be finished and it would be easier to set up vendor booths.

Brookline Breeze 5K Information and application forms for families, teams and individuals are available on the Brookline Breeze Facebook page and the Brookline Breeze website.
