Are You 'Over the Hill' for the Dormont-Brookline Area?

See if you fall above or below the median age for Dormont or Brookline.

Some people feel they are "over the hill" at 30, while others wouldn't consider the thought until that 100th birthday rolls around.

If we get technical about it, "over the hill" is probably when you reach the median age for your community, county, state or, if it makes you feel better, country.

The median point is the age where half the population is older and half is younger. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median age is often used to describe the "age" of a population.

So if you don't want to feel old, stop reading here. (But you're already hooked, so just keep scrolling. We have a list of median ages for South Hills area communities below.)

In 2010, the median age of the United States increased to a new high of 37.2 years, up from 35.3 years in 2000. While that might save you from the black balloons and tombstone decorations for a few more birthdays—if you're 35 and under—what it means is that the country, as a whole, is aging, the Census Bureau reports.

If you want to buy yourself a few years until you hit that midpoint age, locally Washington County is the place to move. The median age there is 43.6, compared with 41.3 for Allegheny County or 41.5 for Butler County.

Or maybe you'll be lucky enough to live in one of the communities that has a higher median age. Around these parts, you can try Aleppo Township, which has a median age of 69.9.

Before age hits home when you find the median age for your community below, don't forget that you can check Patch's business directory for spas, gyms, plastic surgeons or maybe even a doctor who does Botox. Or, just grab the sunscreen before you head to the pool and hope to stave off a few wrinkles.
