5th Annual Dormont Street Fair and Music Festival Set For Saturday

Dormont's own Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers will headline event.

Organizers in Dormont are hoping for better weather this weekend for the 5th Annual Dormont Street Fair and Music Festival. “So far the forecast looks pretty good,” said Dormont Recreation Director Gregor Saulsbery. “But the show will go on, rain or shine. So far in the past, we’ve been pretty lucky.”

The fair will take place Saturday, October 8 from 4 to 11p.m. along the Potomac Avenue business district. For the event, Potomac Avenue will be closed between Belrose and West Liberty Avenues from Noon until Midnight on Saturday.

Headlining this year’s festival is Dormont’s own Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers.

“We are looking forward to returning to the Dormont Street Fair this year,” said Grushecky. “It was one of our favorite shows of last year, and it’s our last outdoor show of the season. It's just a thrill to be playing in my hometown—Dormont is a great place to call home.”

Also performing are The Composure, and The I Drive, Sterling Yoga and several other groups. New this year will be a live broadcast by Y108 starting at 4 p.m.

The family-friendly event promotes Dormont’s many local businesses and will feature a variety of local vendors, artisans, independent businesses, and food merchants.

“The street fair is hugely important for the borough and all of its wonderful businesses, giving each one a chance to shine when people from all around come to see each business,” Saulsbery said. “It allows businesses an opportunity to make a name for themselves, and be discovered by some people who may have had no prior knowledge about them.”
