Marriage----what is it?

Before the Supreme Court is the question of same sex marriages.  Should the United States recognize same sex
marriages as a legal societal institution?
Is DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act, legal?

Of course we all know that currently marriage is recognized as a societal
institution between 2 opposite genders, man and woman.  But society today wants to change the current
understanding and definition of marriage.

Originally, the meaning of the term marriage comes from matrimony, motherhood.  Motherhood, along with fatherhood, is
supposed to continue, procreation, the human species---us Homo Sapiens. With
this idea of procreation foremost in the minds of American society, why should
same sex marriage be acceptable?

Arguments for same sex marriage include the idea that “rights” are being denied same sex couples---what rights you say----well pick whatever one you want; maybe civil rights, participatory rights, right to insurances, right to inheritance and the list goes on.

If a same sex couple wants to cohabitate then the living arrangement becomes their concern.  Why should the rest of society,
sacrifice the concept of “marriage” to satisfy a disgruntle few individuals who
want to have society go their way.  Well,
what if I do not like their way?  Maybe
society should call the living arrangement by a different name.  What about civil unions, what about
civil…..(you add the word), but not call the arrangement marriage.

DOMA is supposed to support marriage as understood for over thousands of years in society, can I say since Adam and Eve; not to be manhandled by individuals who want the concept changed.  In fact why should there be a DOMA anyway?  Why should the institution of marriage be defended?

Does this speak of the deterioration of American society?  Has America’s values for survival changed?
