Illegal Immigration

Why Amnesty?

AJ’S Corner

Anthony P. Joseph, Jr.

To begin with, what is the definition of ILLEGAL?  To quote from Merriam Webster’s Online Dictionary, the definition of illegal is quite obvious; “not according to or authorized by law”.

Over the years, and various presidents, attempts were made, and at times with some success, to make illegal immigrants legal via the amnesty route.  After all since they are working here anyway, paying taxes anyway, and being education anyway, why not make the illegal immigrants citizens.  What is the fallacy in this argument?   A complete injustice and mockery is done to those immigrants who are legally in the United States; and who are working here, paying taxes here and being educated here; AND who want to become citizens via the legal process.

Why are politicians so anxious to wipe out the illegal status and give the illegal immigrants a pass?  Why are the politicians complicit in destroying a workable immigration process that has served the country for decades?  The push for the Dreams Act is a polite way of negating what the United States means.  The Dreams Act will give permanent residency to certain illegal individuals of good moral character, what are the parameters of a good moral character?  An illegal who graduated from high school, why are illegal’s getting a free education? An illegal who has live in the United States for at least 5 years, continuously; if authorities know this person is illegal how is it that this person is living in the U.S. for so long? An illegal who has completed 2 years of military service; why is this person in the military?  An illegal who has completed 2 years at a 4 year institution; who is paying for this education?  The Dream Act list goes on.

Just recently, the Supreme Court has ruled against several provision of the Arizona’s immigration laws.  Two concerns come to mind; first, since the Supreme Court ruled on a state’s law, how will other states view this ruling; second, why is there a constitutional question concerning illegal immigrants; THEY ARE NOT CITIZENS!

Again you have to answer the question, why is there a push for amnesty?  What political gain is there?

Most importantly, what part of illegal do you not understand?
