UPDATE: Deodorant Found in 'Suspicious Package' on West Liberty

The Pittsburgh Bomb Squad investigated a "suspicious package" on West Liberty Avenue this morning, but all it contained was deodorant.

A "suspicious package" found on West Liberty Avenue near the border of Dormont and Brookline Friday morning turned out to be a cooler with a stick of Old Spice deodorant in it.

Pittsburgh police and the bomb squad responded to the bus stop at the corner of Wenzell and West Liberty avenues around 7:45 a.m. after someone called 911 to report the cooler.

Matthew Gaunter of the Pittsburgh Bomb Squad said the caller did right by reporting the cooler, and fortunately, there was no bomb—just a stick of Old Spice.

"Anytime we get something like that, you take it seriously," Gaunter said. "Basically we found that there were no explosives of any type at the scene. It just turned out to be Old Spice."

Gaunter said it's likely that someone simply left the cooler at the intersection. He said the bomb squad was able to clear the area in about 30 minutes.

Traffic was detoured around the area during the investigation, and normal traffic patterns were returned when the area had been cleared.

This smelled like trouble from the begining.

Agree with you there! I'm glad this wasn't a more serious incident, but for a police story, this is pretty funny.
