Street Sweeping Signs Removed

No need to move your cars this month—there will not be street sweeping in Dormont Borough.

The street sweeping signs have been taken down, and there's no need for Dormont residents to move their cars for that reason this month.

Street sweeping will not take place in Dormont in September.

The most recent form of the borough's street sweeping plan, which began in April, resulted in a number of complaints from residents, as well as concerns from public safety officials. Dormont Council voted earlier this month to temporarily suspend the program to give officials time to re-evaluate it and consider scheduling alternatives.

A date to restart the program has not been set.

Borough manager Jeff Naftal said council plans to discuss the situation at its next meeting which will be held this Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at Dormont Municipal Center.

The meeting will be held Tuesday due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday.

I'm very glad to hear that Dormont decided that the safety concerns of this street sweeping policy were just to real to ignore.

Why was the program changed in the first place?

That's been a common question. My understanding is that the schedule the borough tried this year is very similar to a schedule the borough had years ago. It's been unclear why it was changed back. However, there were so many complaints about this year's schedule that council is looking to re-work this plan.

Erin,
Don't you attend most of the council meetings? I was there and understand why the change was made. They have been dicussing street cleaning for the past two years and it has been brought up at multiple prior meetings.

I'm glad this is changed too. There has been too much confusion with holidays and short months. My fiance and I just moved to Dormont and he got a ticket because he thought it was okay to park there that day and apparently he needed to move to the other side of the street... oops :(

Daniele, then perhaps you'd like to share your expertise with the rest of the reading public. Why don't you give us the exact explanation?
