Quick-Change Scammer Hits Dunkin' Donuts

A Dunkin' Donuts employee noticed a cash register was short of money after he made change for a customer.

Dormont police are investigating a quick-change scam that happened Sept. 7 at Dunkin' Donuts on West Liberty Avenue in Dormont.

A Dunkin' Donuts employee told police that a man came into the store just before 6 p.m. and asked if the clerk could make change for a $20. When the clerk did so, the man then asked to make change for several other bills of different amounts. A number of transactions were made.

According to the police report, the cash register was $90 short at the end of the day and the employee thought the difference might have occurred while making change for the customer.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available. Police said surveillance tape is available from the store, and it is being reviewed. Charges have not yet been filed.
