Police Warn Residents to Lock Cars

Brookline police blotter, May 21 to May 27.

Pittsburgh police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight after another spree of thefts swept through Brookline.

Six incidents of theft from a vehicle—many of which were unlocked—were reported between May 22 and 25.

Four of those happened during the late night or early morning of May 21 and 22. Various items, including CDs, money, keys and GPS units were stolen from vehicles parked in the 2900 block of Pioneer Avenue (two thefts), the 3000 block of Knowlson Avenue and the 2400 block of Beaufort Avenue.

A similar incident occurred in the 700 block of Woodbourne Avenue on May 24 between midnight and 2:30 p.m., and another occurred in the 2700 block of Amman Street between 9 p.m. on May 24 and noon on May 25.

Theft

  • Lottery tickets were reported stolen from a store in the 1800 block of Brookline Boulevard in Brookline on May 24 at 1:45 p.m.
  • A cab driver reported that a passenger ran out of the cab without paying the fare in the 1200 block of Brookline Boulevard in Brookline. The incident occurred May 25 between 11 a.m. and noon.
  • A bicycle was reported stolen from the 1600 block of Bellaire Place between 9 p.m. on May 24 and noon on May 25.

Arrests

  • A Brookline man was arrested for domestic violence in the 100 block of Capital Avenue on May 26.
  • Bryan Butella, of Elizabeth, was arrested for possession of marijuana near Mayville and Pioneer avenues in Brookline on May 26.
  • Two men were arrested for domestic violence near Fallowfield and Coast avenues in Beechview on May 23.
  • Ashley Asknew, of Arlington, was arrested for DUI in the 2500 block of West Liberty Avenue in Beechview on May 25.
  • Randi Hornyak, of Brookline, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance near Wenzell and West Liberty avenues in Beechview on May 21.
  • Sulashana Desuru, of Greentree, was arrested for attempting to flee from a police officer near Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Whited Street in Brookline on May 26.
