Police: Illegally Parked Cars Towed During Rush Hour

Dormont police are ticketing—and quickly towing—cars parking on West Liberty Avenue during rush hour.

Dormont police are issuing another warning to residents—parking on West Liberty Avenue during rush hour could get your car towed.

Sgt. James Burke said the police want residents to be aware that if a car is parked illegally during rush hour, it won’t sit on the street long before it is removed.

“It does create a traffic hazard, and not only are we citing them, but we’re towing them pretty much immediately,” he said.

Burke said that when cars parked illegally on West Liberty Avenue during rush hour, they will be ticketed as soon as an officer gets to the scene. The officer will then immediately try to make contact with the owner, but if that’s not possible, then a tow truck will be called.

Burke said the PublicStuff system has helped in that residents can immediately report issues such as parking, but he said most of the time, police are noticing the cars when they already are on patrol.

The PublicStuff system can be used to report parking violation, unsafe road conditions, needed repairs to public property and more. To use it, click here.

I'm all for it. A single car can disrupt the traffic flow and W. Liberty becomes almost impassable if there are a lot of them during rush hour.

I drove through around 8:30-9 a.m. last Friday, and it was pretty much smooth sailing, which surprised me. When I worked in the city a few years ago, I used to hate that stretch in the morning, but it seems to have gotten better. Has anyone else noticed a change, or did I just hit it on a good day?
