Police Activity Thursday Morning in Brookline
A Pittsburgh police spokesperson said police activity in Brookline on Thursday morning was narcotics-related.

A police situation reported in Brookline this morning is related to drug activity, according to a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Police.
Dormont-Brookline Patch contacted Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard on Thursday morning after hearing reports from residents of possible SWAT activity in the area of Pioneer and Bellaire avenues around 9 a.m.
Richard said police-related narcotic activity was conducted in that area, and that a full report would be available Thursday afternoon.
The exact address of the activity, and the identities of those involved, are unknown at this time.

I saw the whole thing While taking the kids to school. Was quite dramatic with flash bangs, officers in fatigues with automatic weapons. About 11 unmarked vehicles quickly shut down Pioneer at Brookline Blvd. Bang! Windows to the apt building and doors were instantly breached. Man it's time to move to Peters township.... i wish I had video or even pics!

Robert, about what time did you see this happening? I first heard about this around 9 a.m., and by 9:30 a.m. the scene was clear. Haven't seen any other reports about this yet.

9:35am and it happened very fast, they quickly secured the building and the block, moved their vehicles and opened the road right back up. because it was open when i was driving home from dropping the kids off. but there were still at least 15 officers (outside in the open) im sure there were many many more, most in fatigues / masks with automatic weapons.
Im kicking myself right now, I wish I had taken photos or even a quick video. I just totally did not think about it.

word on the street (literally) is that it's a hispanic male who had several lbs of weed. he'd been on the run/hiding from police for some time, i'm told .

It was actually a lot of heroin, and three people were arrested. Working on the story now—should be posted in a few minutes.

I don't think marijuana is that big of a deal. We definitely do not need Heroin in our neighborhood...

agreed Robert. you'd think it was hard drugs like cocaine / heroin / meth or etc. perhaps there are/were other mitigating factors as they say that led to this dramatic operation .

Looks like the only person from Brookline was some 25 year old woman. It was heroin and marijuana. No "hispanic" involved, two men from Garfield and Beltzhoover, respectively. Truly a shamearticl said they on many levels. The are all in jail now, at least.
