Mt. Lebanon Woman Featured on ABC's 'Everyday Health' Sunday

Ellese Myer, whose mother died from breast cancer, organized a PINK OUT her senior year of high school—a tradition that continues.

This Sunday, Mt. Lebanon resident Ellese Meyer will be featured on ABC's "Everyday Health," which runs on WTAE at 12 p.m.

"Everyday Health" profiles people who are either facing a health crisis or are close to someone facing a life-altering health event. All of the people profiled have chosen to help people in similar situations. Each program addresses a medical condition, sometimes includes a celebrity guest and always provides a surprise reveal for the person profiled.

Ellese Myer was chosen for the show because three years ago after her mother died from breast cancer, she approached  John Grogan, Mt. Lebanon's athletic director, and asked if she could organize a PINK OUT.

As a senior in high school and a cheerleader, she was looking for a way to honor her mother, raise awareness for breast cancer and raise money for Young Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, a group her mother co-founded.

John supported the idea and invited all the football teams in the WPIAL to participate as well. During that first PINK OUT, the football players wore pink ribbon helmet stickers, the cheerleaders wore pink ribbons in their hair, and the fans wore pink and made donations to the Young Women's Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. The PINK OUT was so successful that it has become a yearly event.

Ellese, who is away at college, will be in town on Sunday to watch "Everyday Health" with John Grogan and Young Women's Breast Cancer Awareness supporters at Bado's Restaurant, 307 Beverly Road, Mt. Lebanon.
