Local Film Debuts at Hollywood Theater Thursday
North Strabane's Cody Knotts has produced his first film, "Lucifer's Unholy Desire"—and promises you'll be surprised.
North Strabane newspaper publisher-turned movie producer Cody Knotts is cordially inviting you to a red-carpet affair.
The first of three feature films the former Republican state House candidate wrote, directed and produced—“Lucifer’s Unholy Desire”—will debut on the silver screen at the Hollywood Theater in Dormont at 7 p.m. today, Thursday.
Knotts said tickets are $30, which includes both admission to the viewing, as well as a special release DVD of the film.
But he asked that you get your tickets sooner rather than later because, while the theater boasts 235 seats, 102 of them are already taken. He added that only the first 150 people will be given the DVD at the premier.
The evening will begin with a screening of the film, followed by a question-and-answer session with the cast and crew after the credits roll.
While New York-based actor Andrew Roth and former “Hellraiser” star Doug Bradley won’t be in attendance, Knotts confirmed that most of those who had starring roles and who live locally will be there.
Aside from what he said is a “great story” about a young woman possessed by a demon that seduces a preacher, Knotts said viewers will also enjoy seeing local towns in the film footage.
“The movie was filmed entirely in Washington County,” he said, adding that viewers will recognize locations in Donora, the City of Washington, Monongahela and Taylorstown.
And for the naysayers?
Knotts said be prepared to be surprised.
After all, he said, so many of his fellow Pittsburgh filmmakers were.
“They were shocked at how much we were able to do on such a small budget,” he said.
Knotts added that while he won’t give away the ending, there is one scene with special effects that he said will blow audiences away—and none of it was done using CGI technology.
“We have to thank the Douglas Education Center for that,” he said, lauding the work they did on the film dealing with makeup.
