The tenth annual Hillsdale Spring Art Event was held over the weekend, filling two floors of Dormont Municipal Center with works by artists from throughout the South Hills.

The 25 artists who participated this year are members of LifeSpan Hillsdale Community Resource Center.

The show, as well as art classes at the center, are part of the Primary Colors Art Guild, a nonprofit organization that formed in 2001 for artists of all ages and skill levels.

“We paint and we laugh a lot,” said artist JoAnne Tierno. “It’s a very social thing.”

The group meets Wednesdays and Thursdays and is instructed by Patricia DiPippa. Many of the artists have taken art classes over the years, but are mainly self taught.

Its members are from Dormont, Mt. Lebanon, Beechview, Banksville, Lawrenceville, Mt. Washington and throughout the South Hills, but despite the distance, Tierno said it’s become a close group.

“It’s a very loosely organized group but we’re all very close,” Tierno said. “You can find anything from a recipe to a remedy in this group.”

A percentage of the proceeds from artwork sales were donated to Dormont Public Library.
