KO Superintendent to Hold Community Coffees

William Stropkaj, the new superintendent of Keystone Oaks School District, is inviting the community to sit down and chat over a cup of coffee.
Stropkaj will hold three "Community Coffees with the Superintendent," one at each elementary school, over the next few weeks to give community members the chance to ask questions or voice concerns in a casual setting.
The goal is to increase two-way conversation with community residents, and increase residents' access to the district.
The open-agenda meetings are informal, and no RSVP is required. The one-hour meetings are open to all residents of the Keystone Oaks School District.
"It has been my experience throughout my career that effective communication is the key to establishing trust and to grow," Stropkaj said, in a statement released last week. "These Community Coffees will give me an opportunity to begin to learn more about the residents of the communities that comprise this fine school district and their concerns. The Community Coffees will also help our citizens gain a better understanding of what we're doing as a district and what we plan on achieving going forward."
Meetings will be held as follows:
Dormont Community Coffee
- Dormont Elementary Cafetorium
- Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 9:30 a.m.
Green Tree Community Coffee
- Fred L. Aiken Elementary School Gymnasium
- Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 9:30 a.m.
Castle Shannon Community Coffee
- Myrtle Avenue Elementary School Cafeteria
- Thursday, Oct. 4, at 9:30 a.m.

Who is paying for this coffee? I just paid $7.89 for a half pound of Folger's Mountain Blend. I hope they are not using taxpayer monies. It may be small, but it all adds up. More of the same from this new school board. Spend spend spend.

Do you mean the same school board members who said they woudn't offer long term contracts to non-educators and then offered enormous contracts to non-educators?
Do you mean the same school board members who said they're all about the kids and then eliminated activities busses?
Do you mean the same school board members that while running for their position proclaimed they would establish a "Permanent community task force for finance" then didn't establish that committee?
Do you mean the same board members that say one thing and then do something very different?

Thanks to Dr. Stropkaj for opening up lines of communication with parents, community leaders and taxpayers. I think these coffees are a wonderful idea and I look forward to meeting him. I would think that some evening events may be a good idea for our working parents and others too.

These community coffees are being held by the superintendent, not by the school board.

It costs only about a dollar to brew a pot of coffee. This is not a weekend retreat. I for one brought my own cup, and was very please that the superintentent made time for the parents. Let him do his job!!
