Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
1. Playdate on Ice Mt. Lebanon
Where/When: Mt. Lebanon Ice Center, Thursday, 9 to 11 a.m.
Why Go?: This is an on-ice group lesson for adults and children. Refreshments, music and cartoon videos will be provided.
Pricing: $4.25 per person.
2. Rite Aid Flu Shot Clinic
Where?/When?: Dormont Public Library, Thursday, 9 a.m to 1 p.m.
Why Go?: Rite Aid Pharmacy will be holding a flu shot clinic at Dormont Public Library. A Rite Aid pharmacist will be on hand to administer flu shots and answer medication-related questions. All seniors ages 65 and over are eligible for a flu shot at no cost, with your red, white and blue Medicare card. Individuals with Gateway or “UPMC for you” are eligible to receive the vaccine at no cost.
Pricing: $27.99, payment can be made by cash or check.
3. Carnegie Arts and Heritage Festival
Where?/When?: Main Street in Carnegie, Thursday to Saturday, Various times.
Why Go?: Come enjoy the Carnegie Arts and Heritage Festival! The festival runs from Sept 8 to 10. The festival is three days of music and entertainment on three stages. The event also features a creative marketplace filled with vibrant arts and crafts, a food court featuring sumptuous ethnic foods and a children’s area to keep the youth entertained all day long! 4. Pack 870 Fall Round-Up Registration
Where/When: Dormont Elementary School, Thursday at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Come learn about and sign up for the Boy Scouts Pack 870! Boys in grades 1 to 5 are eligible to join.
5. Yoga Class
Where/When: Dormont Public Library, Thursday, 7-8:30 p.m.
Why Go: Yoga will energize your mind and body. There is no registration required for this class. Please bring your own water and towel.
Pricing: $1 mat rental fee.
6. Fun Fridays at Mt Lebanon Ice Center
Where/When: Mt. Lebanon Ice Center, Friday at 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Why Go: Bring the family for an afternoon of ice skating and enjoy the special effects lighting, DVD videos and arcade games. Back to school is the theme for the afternoon.
Pricing: $4.75 admission, $2 skate rental.
8. Saturday Outdoors Hike
Where?/When?: The Outdoor Classroom, Saturday, 10-11 a.m.
Why Go?: Smell the fresh air and stretch your legs at Saturday Outdoors Hikes. These one-hour hikes will cover a different topic each month while following the many beautiful trails around the classroom. These hikes are perfect for all ages and great for family activities that will give everyone a chance to connect with the nature found locally. Call 412-838-0064 to register.

9. A Taste of Bedner’s
Where?/When?: Bedner’s Farm and Greenhouse, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go?: Come sample Bedner's homegrown, farm fresh veggies. You'll love these easy and healthy dishes that are prepared with the farm's seasonal produce and herbs. Recipes will be available to take home. The farm will post will be available to sample every Friday on the Taste of Bedner's Facebook page.
10. Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes 5K & One Mile Fun Run
Where/When: South Park, Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m.
Why Go?: The first annual Pittsburgh 9/11 Heroes Run feature a 5K and 1-mile fun run to honor fallen American heroes. The Travis Manion Foundation's philosophy is to "honor the fallen by challenging the living." The 9/11 Heroes Run exemplifies this philosophy. It is an event that allows anyone to set a reasonable goal and demonstrate their commitment to honoring the sacrifices of our heroes through a physical endeavor—symbolic in nature, but powerful when multiplied individually and by community. Online registration ends Sept. 6, however, there are many ways that you can help the organization.
