Four Containers Found Under Dormont Parking Lot
Construction crews have found a total of four concrete containers under the Dormont Pool parking lot since the first collapsed last week.
Four concrete boxes were found at the site of the collapse in the Dormont Pool parking lot, and officials now have a better idea of what the structures might have been used for.
Borough manager Jeff Naftal said the concrete containers appear to be a water management system which would have allowed storm water to enter a concrete channel, then overflow into the first structure, and into the others as needed.
The boxes likely managed water coming from the street, but Naftal said that detail is still unclear.
A crew from Niando construction collapsed and partially filled two boxes over the weekend, and began excavating the third and fourth on Monday.
"We are hopeful that four is the end, but won’t know until we dig that one out whether there is one under the street," Naftal said in an email to Dormont-Brookline Patch.
The cost to collapse and fill the boxes and repair the parking lot is not yet known, but Naftal said Dormont Council would discuss the matter at the April meeting.

Were those boxes used as storm water runoff? Will getting rid of them make a problem for drainage?

I bet drainage is going to get really interesting down there, those boxes were definitely there for a reason, and as to why they can find records is troubling

I am sure Niando Construction is taking this into consideration as they evaluate and repair the area. Per conversations with borough officials, I do not believe these containers were currently being used for anything.

I've got a feeling these boxes are extremely old an no longer in use.

which budget covers this? I gather from the past few council meetings that we're spending quite a bit of money. i hope there is some emergency fund that covers the $3,700/day.

We will likely find out more about this at the April 1 council meeting.
