Two Dormont Elementary students read essays honoring family members during the school's Veterans Day ceremony on Friday.
Dormont Elementary School honored local veterans on Friday during a Veterans Day ceremony.
The ceremony included a tribute to local veterans, several of whom attended and were recognized during the ceremony, a video featuring photos of local veterans who did not attend the ceremony, patriotic songs, and speeches and the reading of essays by two students about veterans in their own families.
Fourth and fifth-graders at Dormont Elementary take part in an annual essay contest where they are asked to pay tribute to one particular veteran. Essay winners received a cash prize of $20.
The fourth-grade winner is Maria Fratangelo, who wrote about her father, Peter Fratangelo. The fifth-grade winner is Sophie Vavrock, who wrote about her great-uncle, Glenn Lee Fullerton.
Both girls read their essays, which can be heard in the videos attached to this article.
