Celebrities to Visit Dormont’s Hollywood Theater

A movie event with special guests including Steelers, Penguins, actors and more will benefit the Red Cross and Hurricane Sandy victims.

A star-studded evening at Dormont’s Hollywood Theater will raise money for the Red Cross, and for victims of Hurricane Sandy who still are recovering from the storm.

A special showing of the independent film “Christmas in Compton,” which opened in theaters last week, will be held at 6 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 16.

“Christmas in Compton,” a comedy co-produced by Pittsburgh natives Paula Gregg and Susan Burig, is about a father-son duo and their community fighting to save their Christmas tree lot after a bad business deal.

The movie stars Keith David as the father, Eric Roberts as a sleazy music executive, and Omar Gooding as the son.

In a press release issued earlier this month, Gregg and Burig said they chose Hollywood Theater for this event because of the theater’s dedication to showing and supporting independent films.

“They are one of the few standing, single screen theaters left in Pennsylvania and they are a non-profit organization tied into our very industry,” Gregg said in the release.

The event will feature a complimentary vodka bar sponsored by White Diamond Vodka, and a free combo pack with popcorn, candy and a soda for attendees. The combo pack is sponsored by Spirit Pen Promotions, the company that makes “Black Out” under-eye makeup for athletes. There also will be raffles for signed Steelers memorabilia.

The event organizers, in conjunction with Blazer Capital Management, will donate proceeds from the raffles to the Red Cross.

The guest list that features local celebrities as well as cast members from the film.

Confirmed attendees include cast members Miguel Nunez, Porscha Coleman and Omar Gooding. Confirmed Pittsburgh Steelers include Charlie Batch, Maurkice Pouncey, Chris Rainey, Larry Foote, James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley. Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pascal Dupuis and Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Russell Okung of the Seattle Seahawks and recording artist Jasmine Villegas also have confirmed they will attend.

Other surprise guests could include Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Benji Grinberg of Rostrum Records. Attendance for these guests has not been confirmed.

A limited amount of tickets are available for the public. For details, see the Hollywood Theater website.

I suspect this will draw a lot of attention to Dormont on Friday night. I found out because I received a press release, which I imagine was sent to multiple news organizations. Good day for Dormont!
