Seven cars were targets of vandalism in Dormont over the weekend.
Five cars in the 2600 block of Voelkel Avenue and two cars, one each in the 2700 and 2800 block of Connecticut Avenue, had slashed or punctured tires.
A Voelkel Avenue resident contacted Dormont police on Saturday evening, Aug. 25, to report the vandalism. Police Chief Phil Ross said that when officers arrived, they noticed several cars on the street had damaged tires. Connecticut Avenue residents made similar reports the same evening.
All of the damage occurred late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Ross said the incident seems to be an act of random vandalism, and that the police do not yet have suspect information, and no witnesses have come forward.

Oh my goodness, I just moved to Dormont and was just telling my fiance, it seems like there's a lot of crime going on in the area, but I'm glad it's not on our street (Voelkel) - looks like it is now:(

Angelica, there has been a lot of vandalism in the area lately, but it's not specific to Dormont. It also has been happening in the surrounding communities. I publish a police blotter for Dormont every Monday—sometimes there's a wild card event, but most of the time, the crime in Dormont is limited to the type of petty incidents that every community deals with.

Although I imagine vandalism isn't exactly fun, I imagine it is preferred over some other crimes. I keep reading about break-ins, robberies, etc..
