Brookline, Dormont Ready For Memorial Day Parade

The 78th annual South Hills Memorial Day parade and service is dedicated to Ryan Lane, a Castle Shannon Marine killed in Iraq.

Dormont Deputy Chief Jeff Arnold cleans a fire truck Friday for the South Hills Memorial Day parade and service.

The 78th South Hills Memorial Day parade begins at 10 a.m. in Brookline, proceeds along Brookline Boulevard, Pioneer Avenue, West Liberty Avenue, Washington Road and ends with services at Mount Lebanon Cemetery.

The parade and service are dedicated to Marine Sgt. Ryan Lane. Lane, 25, died on July 23, 2009, while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan.

The parade will feature the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, police from Dormont, Pittsburgh and Mount Lebanon, Dormont Volunteer Fire Dept., area scouts, Dormont Mayor Tom Lloyd and council, the Salvation Army, the Dormont Historical Society, the Brookline American Legion, Brookline Chamber of Commerce, various Keystone Oaks School District students, Medical Rescue Team South Authority and others.

Nice job as usual by the parade committee and all of the marshals. They ordered some great weather and the turnout was fantastic by marchers and residents.
