5th Annual Friends Of Dormont Pool St. Patrick's Party

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while supporting Dormont Pool on Saturday.

Do you love Dormont Pool?  Do you love St. Patrick’s Day?  Then get your “Kiss Me I’m Irish” buttons and green garb ready to join your friends and neighbors this Saturday for the 5th annual Friends of Dormont Pool St. Patrick’s Day party fundraiser.

This 21-and-older event is being held from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Dormont Recreation Center, above the pool.  The recreation center will be turned into an Irish festival atmosphere with music, food and beer being provided along with a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle.

Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door and are $15.00 per person or $25.00 per couple. Cash only.

“In past years, the St. Patrick’s Day party has had 80 to 100 people attend and has collected an average of $2,500” says Sarann Fisher, treasurer of Friends of Dormont Pool and the chair of this event.  All proceeds go to Dormont Pool.

Sponsoring the event are the Friends of Dormont Pool, along with Wilson McGinley, Banksville Beer, Giovanni's, Armstrong's, Molly's, and Potomac Bakery.

Beer, water, soda and an array of food such as pasta, meat balls, wings, ham BBQ, hoagies, chili, potato salad and tossed salad are on the menu for the night. Makes me think of a wedding, Irish style.

Along with a 50/50 raffle is a Chinese auction.  Strips of tickets can be purchased and dropped into prize bags for the drawing during the night’s activities.

A few of the gift baskets and prize donations for the Chinese auction are Beleek china mugs from Costantini's, a make over from Sergio's, floral arrangement from Cassandra's, gift basket from Tastefully Simple, gift certificates from Salon Primo, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Carnegie Science Center, The Warhol, Washington Wild Things, Splash Water Sport, Mekong, The Dor Stop, Phipps Conservatory and many more.

Craig Wetzel of Dormont Elementary School will be the DJ for the night for guests to shake their shamrocks out on the dance floor.  He will be playing dance hits and classic rock and roll, along with a few slow songs to let you catch your breath.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by phone at 412.561.7692 or by email:

Another great turnout by residents and non-residents to support the Friends Of Dormont Pool. The continued success of these fundraisers will have long lasting benefits for Dormont and all that utilize this incredible landmark. Thanks to all that attended and thanks also to the organizers, volunteers and all those who pitched in to make this happen. Cassie, nice words for good people. Your generous help was appreciated as well.
