If there's one thing that sets Dormont and Brookline apart as unique and active communities, it's that each of them have great small business districts.

In today's social media age, Facebook can be one of the best ways to find out when these shops have sales, specials and events. Here are a few to follow, in no particular order, if you haven't already:

I'd add R Bar to the list. It's a great neighborhood bar with live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Some of the best rock and blues acts in Pittsburgh play there regularly.
